April is Safe Digging Month! Are you planning a home improvement job? Planting a tree? Installing a fence or deck? WAIT! Here's what you need to know first:

Whether you are planning to do it yourself or hire a professional, smart digging means calling Digger's Hotline of Nebraska before each job.
Homeowners often make risky assumptions about whether or not they should get their utility lines marked, but every digging job requires a call;even small projects like planting trees and shrubs. The depth of utility lines varies and there may be multiple utility lines in a common area. Digging without calling can disrupt service to an entire neighborhood, harm you and those around you and potentially result in fines and repair costs.
Calling the Digger's Hotline of Nebraska before every digging job gets your underground utility lines marked for free and helps prevent undesired consequences.
Call the Digger's Hotline of Nebraska 48 hours before you dig. You can contact them at 1-800-331-5666, Dial 811, or visit www.ne-diggers.com.

It's Free...It's Easy...It's the Law!

Refrigerator Recycling back to top >>

Chances are the older refrigerator or freezer in your basement or garage is running up your utility bill by an average of $100 a year. Recycle it, reduce your energy use and keep harmful materials out of landfills. We'll pick it up for free and you'll pick up $35.
For a FREE pickup, call 1.866.444.9160 or visit www.jacoinc.net.
JACO Environmental, an appliance recycler, will pick up and recycle refrigerators and freezers that are in working condition. This program is seasonal and available to residential electric customers of Nebraska Public Power District and its wholesale utility customers on a first-come, first-served basis. The program is partially funded through the Waste Reduction and Recycling Incentive Grant Program, Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality. Customers must own the unit(s) being recycled. Limit two units per residential address.

Pole Inspection       back to top >>

The District began its pole inspection program in 1988 in an effort to identify poles in need of replacement due to age or damage. By continually reinvesting in our system, the Norris District has been able to mitigate damage related to storms and also reduce outage durations for our customers.
Each year, as part of our on-going pole inspection program, Norris Public Power District inspects a portion of the 85,000 poles that the Norris District owns and maintains. Since the program began, every pole in the District has been inspected.
This year the Norris District has contracted with Midwest Pole Inspections (MPI) from Randolph, Nebraska to inspect and apply treatment to approximately 3,600 poles throughout the District's five county service area.
MPI will inspect and treat both sub-transmission and distribution poles. All poles older than ten years will be excavated and if found to be sound, treatment will be applied. An internal treatment will be applied to those poles that cannot be excavated. All poles found in need of replacement will be identified and replaced by the Norris District after the inspection.
