2010 Load Control Program       back to top >>

After studying and evaluating the benefits of the Norris Public Power District load control program, it has become apparent that controlling air conditions/heat pumps at the present time is not cost effective. Therefore, the District will be suspending the load control program for air conditioners/heat pumps, along with the corresponding credits effective January 1, 2010.

The District will continue to control water heaters on a monthly basis; however we will no longer differentiate between the Winter/Summer seasons and will apply water heater load control credits in the amount of $2.00 per month. This change will also be effective January 1, 2010.

We appreciate all of the past customer participation in the load control program; and as we go forward, we will continue to evaluate our programs and may re-instate the changes made as the energy market and economic conditions evolve. As a result, we will be leaving presently installed load controllers on air conditioners/heat pumps in place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Dave Brauning, Manager of Network and Information Systems at 402-223-4038 or 1-800-858-4707.

Remember Harvest Safety       back to top >>

Harvest season is one of the busiest times of year for farmers – and among the most dangerous. Before taking to the fields, Norris Public Power urges farm workers to be aware of overhead power lines and to keep equipment and extensions far away from them.
The District urges you to keep the following in mind when heading out into the field:

  • Each day review all farm activities and work practices that will take place around power lines and remind all workers to take precautions.

  • Know the location of power lines and keep farm equipment at least 10 feet away from them.

  • Use care when raising augers or the bed of a grain truck. It can be difficult to estimate distance and sometimes a power line is closer than it looks. When moving large equipment or high loads near a power line, always use a spotter, or someone to help make certain that contact is not made with a line.

  • Always lower portable augers or elevators to their lowest possible level - under 14 feet - before moving or transporting them. Variables like wind, uneven ground, shifting weight or other conditions can combine to create an unexpected result.

  • Be aware of increased height when loading and transporting larger modern tractors with higher antennas.

  • Never attempt to raise or move a power line to clear a path!

  • Don’t use metal poles when breaking up bridged grain inside and around bins.

  • As in any outdoor work, be careful not to raise any equipment such as ladders, poles or rods into power lines. Remember, non-metallic materials such as lumber, tree limbs, tires, ropes, and hay will conduct electricity depending on dampness and dust and dirt contamination.

  • Use qualified electricians for work on drying equipment and other farm electrical systems.
